Favorite action figures reveals from SDCC 2023
2023's San Diego Comic con has come and gone, supplying us with a load of awesome new action figure reveals to enjoy from pretty much every major toyline from major toy companies ranging from Hasbro to Mattel to Jazwares! Many of my major toylines that I collect were well represented, with some very exciting news and reveals granted for lines such as Star Wars Black Series and Mcfarlane's DC Multiverse! With time having passed to fully digest everything that was revealed, and make sure I'm not missing anything, I've put together my list talking about my favorite toy reveals from 2023's show!
Masterverse Mekaneck
As a child I didn't have a ton of exposure to Masters of the Universe, but one character I distinctly remember for some reason was Mekaneck. I'd even go as far as to stretch my neck out pretending to be him on while hanging out with my friends. Mattel has revealed that they're bringing him into the Masterverse line, which is a blast of childhood nostalgia for me.
Black Series Battle droids
I wasn't particularly wowed by any of the full product reveals for Star Wars' 6 inch figure line, but you can be sure as heck that my jaw started dropping with the pipeline reveals. We're FINALLY getting Destroyer Droids and Super Battle Droids in the line!! I can finally stop talking about them on wishlists on this blog, lol. I cannot wait to see them captured in 6 inch scale, though the Super Battle Droid being part of a Hasbropulse exclusive two-pack as opposed to being a general release is an odd choice for such a popular army builder.
Micro Galaxy Squadron AT-TE
Maintaining a focus on Star Wars for this next slot, Jazwares revealed what will be the first vehicle in their line of Star Wars vehicles to be part of the "Dreadnaught" class which will be their largest price point and size class yet in this incredible line of in-scale Star Wars vessels. The prequel love is strong with the upcoming AT-TE which was revealed in name only, but given how impressive their AT-AT walker release is I can only imagine the treat we'll be in for when it comes to an even bigger walker!
Armada Powerlinx Hot Shot and probable Armada Wheeljack pre-tool
Growing up on the Transformers Armada cartoon has made this last year of Transformers collecting very exciting for me. Starscream, Hot Shot, and Megatron all received new figures, and 2023's Commander class slot is being filled by Optimus Prime himself. SDCC displayed some further love for Armada, with Hot Shot receiving his Powerlinx repaint alongside our first updated Minicon in Jolt! Not only that, but the Shattered Glass Sideswipe that was revealed has some striking resemblances to Armada Wheeljack in the chest scar, the headsculpt, the swords, as well as the included Minicon. So my bet is that this Shattered Glass Sideswipe is actually a pre-tool that'll be appropriately repainted into Armada Wheeljack in the future!
G.I. Joe Classified Dreadnoks, Tripwire, SMS
A line that is easily becoming a new obsession for me has been the G.I. Joe Classified line, with so many unique and compelling characters who are always really well done with TONS of accessories which is so nice. SDCC's 2023 show revealed plenty of upcoming greatness including the reveals of Buzzer and Ripper to start off our classic Dreadnok trio, an awesome Tripwire set, and I cannot stop gawking at how epic that Techno-Viper and SMS artillery set is going to be in physical form!
DC Multiverse
Mcfarlane's line of DC Comics figures continues to hold my heart as my favorite toy line going right now, and the 2023 SDCC reveal panel only has me ever more excited for what is coming in the future. To start off with, we're getting a Build-A wave based off of the Batman and Robin movie?! That Arnold Schwarzenegger Mr. Freeze will be mine! Jim Gordon's Batman has been a Batman variant I've wanted in the line for a while, and Dark Knights of Steel is a universe I'm really excited for them to be dipping their toes into! Hawkman, Sinestro, Firestorm, Black Lightning, and Supergirl are all really awesome choices to broaden the slate of characters in the line and really build out the existing roster. Not only that, but we're finally getting a standard design for comic Wonder Woman in the line that isn't some kind of Metal and Elseworlds stylized story!
