We're almost knee deep into 2024, so I figure it is just about time for me to go into my top movie list of 2023. I haven't seen everything that came out last year, but I saw most of the movies that were on my immediate radar (along with some surprises recommended by fans) and at this point in time this is how my ranking for films of last year has turned out. When putting together the list I realized I had added two extra movies making this a "Top 12" as opposed to a "Top 10" list; however, it gives me more of a chance to talk about more films. I haven't put numerical listings beside the titles, just because it was hard to put them in a general order and things are still fluid with what I think was "better" than others. 2020 was a huge year for the Transformers Studio Series line from Hasbro as we finally completed the mighty Devastator! A massive undertaking for the line as one of the most complex combiners the company as ever tackled! Eight whole robots with completely unique designs and different size classes being released across two years, with their combination ports all wholly unique for the most part. It was unlike anything in the way of modern combiners, and as the Bayverse Constructicons are some of my favorite Transformers designs of all time I was more than thrilled to not only get the entire team updated in the line but also to get them in a fashion that allows them to also form the giant Devastator! I can safely say without a doubt that Mcfarlane has blown me away by their line of DC Multiverse figures. I've long waited for DC comics to get a line of retail action figures that stand out to what a lot of the other big toylines have, and I think we've reached far beyond that point now. It has been a fantastic first year for the company and the line, and while I hear complaints about the line being too Batman focused I know that the character sells and that as long as the figure quality stays as good as it is they can do whatever they want. I'm just happy to have DC figures with top grade articulation and absolutely amazing sculpting work put into them. With Mcfarlane's first year with the license coming to a close, here is a look at my personal top five favorite figures from the line! 5. DC's animated movies have been a staple of every year with a lot of great movies coming in this format and in a very consistent basis whereas the live action movies are more varied with their releases. Some gems like Flashpoint Paradox, Under the Red Hood, and now Apocalypse War have graced the DC universe and there is no signs of this format stopping anytime soon. Unlike the live action movies, the animated movies feel like they can do any story in DC's vast history without needing several movies to lead up to them. Which means the universe is completely wide open to potentially any story from DC's legacy, and here are the top 5 I'd like to see as the next DC original movies. While the heroes themselves may be colorful in the Power Rangers universe, it is hard not to talk about the villains that constantly pose a threat to our main characters. The Lightning Collection line certainly isn't stepping away from the villains corner either, as several have already made their way into the line in the likes of Cybervillain Blaze, Drakkon, Zedd, Goldar, and more! While the villains have all nearly come from Mighty Morphin, which does have a fantastic gallery of rogues, I'm taking a cue from my lists about most wanted Power Rangers and looking at the villains I want most from each of the Zordon era seasons in the Power Rangers franchise! McFarlane has made a point that big characters will be included in his line of DC action figures. Some at regular price, others as build a figures, and his emphasis on BIG makes me excited what he does with some of DC's bigger sized characters! There's a whole stable of these kinds of characters in the pages of DC history, but I've managed to narrow my list of most wanted down to 5 (kind of) of the ones I want most in figure form from Mcfarlane. Wizards of the Coast, the folks behind the awesome Transformers the card game, have stated previously that the Generations line of Transformers figures would be a big inspiration towards where the waves of the card game went and what characters would be introduced to the fold.
