The Flash S05 EP10 spoiler review

(Barry, Nora, and Iris at Weather Witch's trial. They're all doing the same thing with their hands)

The Flash has finally returned from its midseason break and I'm happy to have it back! The episode that premiered tuesday night gave us a lot to think about for future episodes, and some new mysteries that need to be solved. Here's my review of the Flash's newest episode, "The Flash and the Furious"

The main brunt of the episode focused on the creation of the "New Rogues," though, I never really felt like we got a full Rogues team up aside from Captain Cold and Heatwave, and then Weather Wizard and Trickster. So for the classic villains to be pushed aside I feel a bit cheated out of a true Rogue's team up. The newest team so far consists of Weather Witch and a new villain called Silver Ghost, with Spin being hinted as a member later on. I'm not very interested in this group of characters and do prefer the old villains, as Silver Ghost's powers revolve around hijacking cars which seems niche, and Weather Witch spent the whole of the episode regretting her past actions and wanting to reform herself; however, her escaping with Silver Ghost in the end seems like she's turned back to evil. I really enjoyed the remorse plot, but she flip flopped in the episode and ultimately went back to evil instead of turning herself and Silver Ghost in which confused me a bit. It was a great episode for Nora to understand that not everyone is incapable of being saved from evil; it also played into her own arc.

This is just a short aside, but Ralph was mentioned as being with his mom and that is why he wasn't in the episode; however, it feels like this season has done stuff like that way too many times and forced Ralph to sit out several episodes. After season 4 leaning so heavily on him it is a bit saddening to see him play no major role thus far, and I'm hoping that changes soon and the writers don't ultimately write him out as they did Wally.

Another plot thread throughout the episode was Caitlin finally removing the shards of Cicada's dagger from Cisco's hands, which he discovered wasn't just dampening his powers but draining them. This lead to Cisco trying to formulate a metahuman cure, which Caitlin swiftly shot down and continuously voiced her opposition too since she didn't want to take it. Caitlin/Killer Frost really annoyed me in this episode, cause if she didn't want to take it then JUST DON'T TAKE IT. There are plenty of other people who would gladly want it, and now dead characters like Plastique and Fallout could have definitely benefited. What about criminals? Metahuman criminals should be forced to take the cure to rid them of their dangerous powers and avoid the need for super special containment units. It felt like I was watching Storm in X-Men 3 when she argued that no one needs a cure even though there are clearly people who want a cure. Cisco voiced his own desire to have the cure so that he could lead a normal life and have a family, which Caitlin bullied him about for some reason, then turned around and decided to help him even though she still doesn't agree with the need for a cure. I can definitely see the cure being used for Cicada as well to negate his powers (and to avoid him killing himself at the end of the season like he suggested he will, which would leave his niece without a family). So I'm definitely on team Cisco when it comes to a cure, which would be voluntary and Caitlin would have to take it which she keeps complaining about.

The secondary plot of the episode revolved around Nora's meetings with Thawne in the year 2049 where he has been imprisoned. These were a thrill to watch, and offer up so much potential for storylines and payoffs in later episodes! Nora confronted him after discovering that he had killed her grandmother, after which Thawne insisted that he wished to reform himself and ensure that the legacy of himself wasn't one of evil. Nora learned from her father and Weather Witch during the episode that people have the potential to be good no matter how bad they are, which lead Nora to working with Thawne once again and giving him the chance to redeem himself. Thawne said he wanted to do it fast though as time wasn't on his side, and we were shown a count down timer with less than a hour to go. Woah, what is that? Is that his execution clock? Is there something more cosmic and speed forcey going on with him? I definitely want to know more about what is going on, I also want to see the eventual discovery by Barry that Nora is working with his arch-nemesis (even if thus far she hasn't been made to do anything bad), and to see the eventual, probable, almost certain reveal that Thawne doesn't truly want to reform and is planning something evil.

That last part of the episode I want to mention is Sherloque's continued investigation into Nora's speed force symbols, of which he determined that they were the same thing Barry wrote after exiting the speed force. In the end of the episode he communed with Gideon who recognized him as doctor Wells, and upon his request to see the information on Nora he was promptly told that Nora had deleted all of her files herself. This could lead to some tense scenes between Nora and Sherloque if he confronts her about it, and the show seems to be leading towards him being the one to discover what is truly occurring. While I enjoy his character, I do think that could have been the perfect storyline to give Ralph and have him do something rather than just forcing another version of Wells into the show, especially since he have Thawne playing a role in the future. Ralph is a detective and has been trying to do more of it this season, so this would have been perfect for him to do and lead to some tension between himself and Barry since he is investigating his daughter. Just feels like a missed opportunity to give a sidelined character a major role, and avoid just another Wells being thrown into the show.
