Top 5 things I expect to see in Mcfarlane's DC Multiverse line in 2022
Throughout Mcfarlane's two years with the DC license we have seen him go through nearly every corner of the DC universe in broad scales. We've gotten live action film, animated series, comic books, videogames, and dives into the biggest stories like Red Son, Flashpoint, Dark Knights Metal, Last Knight on Earth, Infinite Crisis, and I love how faithfully Mcfarlane has been pouring through DC's Multiverse! There's still so much to cover though, and with 2022 on the horizon with a whole new year of upcoming figures I thought I would sit down and recount what I expect to see in the line next year when looking at what has come already and trends from the line. So with a great second year coming to an end, these are the top five things I expect to see from Mcfarlane's DC Multiverse line in 2022!

This isn't just an expectation, this is an undeniable fact that we will be getting figures to celebrate the opening of DC's upcoming films. Mcfarlane has confirmed before that any upcoming DC films would find action figure support and that is to be expected when looking at other toylines and how action figure support is expected to celebrate new films. We've seen it from Mcfarlane so far with every DC movie that's opened during the line's run, and I can say for sure that we'll have DCEU film figures based on these two movies next year!
When it comes to current and popular stories that DC publishes these days it has been pretty consistent that Mcfarlane will get around to making figures, which usually takes about a year to produce after the stories are published. For 2021's big Infinite Frontier launch one of the biggest focuses was the new 'Teen Titans Academy' series and its emphasis on the mysterious identity of Red X and the character's overall introduction to the broader comic world! With the amount of fanfare this character has received, I'd be surprised if he doesn't end up getting a figure next year!
These two are what I consider the two most obvious missing Elseworlds stories from Mcfarlane's roster of characters so far! The two best picks from either story would be Kingdom Come's grizzled, older Superman and Gaslight's old fashioned Batman, both of which would likely come out looking stellar and open the door for more characters from these great stories to be done in Mcfarlane's action figure line!
Last winter DC had a big event called 'Endless Winter' which ran over several issues of different comics, seeing a massive blizzard hit the world as the Frost King rose again! It was a really fun story and a quick one to get through as it came out all in one month, and while it may have went by quick there's no denying the fun it was and there are some really stand out designs that would make great figures! Wonder Woman and Batman in their arctic outfits are obvious ones, not to mention the ancient 'Justice League' formed by Swamp Thing, Viking Prince, Black Adam, and Hippolyta, with Frost King being perfect for a mega figure or build-a!
I will be honestly shocked if next year goes by without a single Future State figure being produced! This was a huge mandate and event by DC that saw every series go on hiatus while the potential futures of the DC universe were explored, giving us looks as what may come between the Teen Titans fighting for survival against a mythic invasion, the future Justice League facing the Hyperclan, and the biggest chunk revolving around the Magistrate's ruling of Gotham! The aesthetics of the series were profound, and designs like Dark Detective Bruce Wayne, and the Next Batman are two I could see Mcfarlane easily jumping on! Beyond that I'd love the whole Future State Justice League including Yara Flor, and I'd wager we'll get at least a few figures for this momentous event next year.
DC's launch of Infinite Frontier was huge, a brand new era that saw the relaunch of many titles and the rebranding of others, paving the way for a brave new world of hope and optimism. New status quos are being established such as Jon taking over as Superman, the Magistrate moving into Gotham, the Titans opening their academy, and above all the Justice League Incarnate laid the ground work for a huge battle to come in the titled 'Infinite Frontier' miniseries which culminated in an epic cursory battle with a returned Darkseid! Calvin Ellis, Captain Carrot, and the rest of JL Incarnate should be high on Mcfarlane's radar with the focus they got this year, and other big shifts like the return of the JSA will hopefully bode for figures based on those characters as well!
