Top 5 most wanted Black Series figures from Obi Wan Kenobi (Disney+)
Disney+'s Obi Wan Kenobi series wrapped up with a bang, displaying one of the most epic lightsaber fights in the franchise's history, and providing lots of emotional payoff for several of the series' storylines. On the toy side of things it has been very refreshing to have around a dozen figures for the series revealed during the show's run, rather than having to wait a year or two out like we often have to do with The Mandalorian. This is hopefully a trend that sticks, because I loved watching the show and turning around to see a character on screen that I just watched have a figure revealed! Hasbro's Black Series has already gone pretty deep into the show's cast, delivering every Inquisitor, multiple looks for Obi Wan, Tala, Ned-B, and others but there is still plenty of great designs from this corner of the Star Wars universe and I hope they come sooner rather than later!
SPOILERS AHEAD
Tala presence and role in the series provided a really nice gray area in terms of seeing the conflict with the Empire, showing us that while a lot of the Empire is pretty bad, there are some who aren't evil and who want to do the right thing! Getting Tala in her Imperial outfit is what I was hoping for as it is the look I most associate with her, but her red rebel outfit would be a welcome addition one day to go with Obi Wan and Ned-B.
Introduced in the show's second episode as a fake Jedi coercing people to pay him for his smuggling services to get them out of the Empire's thumb, Haja Estree gave us some more of a viewpoint on how people viewed the Jedi following Order 66. He was a well handled comedic foil for Obi Wan and didn't interject too much humor into what is otherwise a pretty serious show.
One of the biggest surprises from the show was the introduction of a young Leia, and just how much of a role she played in the series! Her sassiness and bravery are exactly what we know Leia for, and her relationship with Obi Wan was one of the most heartfelt to watch develop, especially in regards to him telling her about her parents. If Hasbro had a kid Leia coming out anytime soon I'm sure it would have been revealed at this point, and with Obi Wan's figure coming with Lola (Leia's droid) that feels like further proof that if we're going to get a kid Leia figure it won't be soon.
One duo I was really excited to see more of in the series was Owen and Beru Lars, the people who literally raised Luke who I feel don't get acknowledged nearly as much as they should! The distrust between Owen and Obi Wan was one of my favorite relationships in the series to see play out, and getting to see Beru take on a larger role for the final episode in the series was a delight that gave precedence for her getting a Black Series figure. While "Owen and Beru" were likely not on the tops of anyone's list prior to this show, I hope their role in this and their fight with Reva in the final episode is enough to put them on Hasbro's radar.
I will start off by saying that I know Freck's prosthetics were a little wonky when he was talking, but otherwise it was a great alien design for the Star Wars universe and seeing him as an Empire sympathizer showed us that not every civilian was against the Empire. There's not much else to his role in the story, but neither was the Fourth Sister's and she is getting a figure.
Above all, this is definitely the figure from the series I need after watching it in full. We've already gotten two Obi Wan figures from the series; however, this is actually the outfit he wore for most of the show's run and for some of the biggest moments in the series. The biggest by far is his showdown with Vader in the final episode, an absolutely jaw dropping fight that was everything I was wishing it would be! The outfit is pretty much dark Jedi robes, nothing spectacular although I do like the sleeveless robe he wear, but it is the circumstances and scenes in which he wears this outfit that really turns it into my most wanted figure from the series!
