Most wanted Marvel Legends MCU figures from each 2022 Phase 4 project
Marvel's 2022 slate has wrapped up and overall another decisive year for Marvel with a lot of projects fans weren't as happy with, while others were great crowd pleasers! Phase 4 has come to a close, with phase 5 hopefully bringing in some tighter story telling and more satisfying projects overall. The Marvel Legends line has continued to run strong though, and while just about all of the projects on this list have had great representation in the toyline so far there are still plenty of new characters and designs from the MCU shelf of my display that I'm waiting to have fulfilled!
Moon Knight: Arthur Harrow
I could easily see this character being the next release in the Disney+ waves of figures from the Moon Knight tv show, which overall did leave a good taste in fans' mouths! We've to this point gotten Mr. Knight, Moon Knight, and Khonshu which are all fantastic figures, so it would only make sense to round out the display with Arthur Harrow who was a great antagonist for the show! The only thing about him is that his costume design isn't as compelling as others in the MCU; however, we're getting figures of Jimmy Woo and Sharon Carter so Arthur Harrow should have no problem in the line!
I was so excited when I watched Doctor Strange 2 and found out that Wanda was the main villain! the MCU took one of their heroes and sent them fully down the villain route after she became a major fan favorite in Infinity War and Endgame, and got her own wildly successful Disney+ show! So to see the MCU turn her into a murdering, cruel villain and not double down on her success as a hero was extremely surprising and refreshing! Her costume design isn't all that different from her Wandavision figure, but just the dark, haunting headsculpt alone to portray her turn as a villain would make for a great figure!
Ms Marvel: Red Dagger
I thought Ms Marvel was okay. It was fun, but wasn't anything I found especially groundbreaking though I did really like Ms Marvel herself and the exploration of her family's history. We got Kamala as a figure already in the line, and truthfully the only other character in the show I think that deserves a figure would be the Red Dagger. Everyone else wore plain street clothes, which I know we do get plenty of in the line but I prefer true costumes and uniforms. Technically this is just a red scarf around their face; however, it is more than any other character in the show.
Thor 4: Zeus
Well, fans' reception to Taika Waititi taking on the Thor franchise certainly changed after this movie. They went from saying he saved the Thor franchise to that he ruined it. It hasn't been a movie that has really stuck with me, and we've gotten just about all the figures I really need from it. Zeus is definitely one from the main cast that would fit in nicely with what we've gotten so far. He's got a unique costume design for the MCU, and his thunderbolt accessory could easily be given to any of the main characters to reenact the climax of the movie.
She Hulk: Abomination
I wasn't entirely thrilled with Abomination's role in the MCU with his full return in She Hulk. The original iteration of the character from the Incredible Hulk film was a dangerous, frightening villain who could go toe to toe with the Hulk! Regardless, it was nice to see the character make a reappearance and I did dig his redesign quite a bit.
Werewolf by Night: the Werewolf
I was very pleasantly surprised by Marvel's Halloween special! Werewolf by Night was very stylized, gruesome, and really held its own style that set it apart from a lot of other projects in the MCU! The climactic werewolf unleashed scene by the end of the special was epic, and a great showdown that proves Marvel can flourish with a darker side to their storytelling! We haven't had any indication yet that we're getting any figures for this project, but it'd be nice to slot Jack Russel into a Disney+ wave at some point.
One of the breakout stars of the second Black Panther film, which is one of the best films in Marvel's phase 4, was definitely Riri Williams and her Ironheart moniker! We've gotten a deluxe figure of her titular armor we see her wearing during the climax of the film, and we'll no doubt get more figures of her with her own television series coming up soon; however, I'd love for Marvel Legends to give us here Mark 1 armor we see from her workshop. It was much more barebones, industrial, and had a great aesthetic that contrasts so much from what we see her utilizing later on.
Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday special: Groot
A really fun and positive project for Marvel to end phase 4 with, The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special doesn't have many new designs that could be used for figures as its mostly characters in previously seen outfits or wearing holiday sweaters over their outfits; however, one that definitely needs a figure as soon as possible is Groot! He has aged up again, this time sporting a much more broad body albeit with an adorable baby face. This is the same look we see him in during the Guardians of the Galaxy 3 trailer, so hopefully by the time that film rolls out we'll have this young adult Groot as part of the collection!
