Ranking my excitement for all 12 MCU phase 5 projects
Marvel's phase 4 is behind us, a phase that took things a little slower following the events of the Infinity Saga but still gave us a lot of epic stories and introduced a whole slew of new heroes and villains to the Marvel universe! The stage is set for phase 5, and with lots of exciting projects on the horizon (and projects I'm not as excited about) here is my ranking of how excited I am for each Marvel MCU phase 5 project!
12. Echo
I thought that the character of Echo/Maya in Hawkeye was fine, she wasn't my favorite character in the series, nor was she an MCU character that I was particular hurting to have a solo series for. I am looking forward to seeing more of Kingpin and Daredevil, and I'm sure the show has the potential to be very good. But compared to a lot of other projects I'm just not as excited for this one.
11. Agatha: Coven of Chaos
Just like Echo, this is a series I did not think needed to be made. Agatha was a charismatic antagonist in the WandaVision series, but that is where I felt her character had ended. Now she is headlining her own show, and aside from costume design and magical effects likely being cool to look at I haven't found myself very thrilled in anticipation for an Agatha show.
The first season of Loki was fantastic when it started but there were a myriad of story choices in the latter portion of the show that really dragged it down for me, and I'm not as excited to see season 2 as I previously would have. Loki himself is eternally drawing to watch with Tom Hiddleston's charisma, and with the tease that a much more serious and dangerous Kang will be the main villain this time around I'm hopeful it can top the first season.
9. Ironheart
Riri was a fun character introduced in Black Panther 2, one of my favorite projects from phase 4 of the MCU. And the behind the scenes looks we have gotten from her series already have me looking forward to further adventures with her! The new suit design we have seen on set is looking nice and heavy, skewing more towards a War Machine look than the typical sleek Ironheart design's from the comics. The series will also be bringing The Hood into the MCU, and potentially Mephisto as well!
8. The Marvels
I am one of the few that seemed to have actually enjoyed the Captain Marvel movie, even while fighting a migraine the day I decided to watch it. Behavior of the actor in interviews aside, Captain Marvel herself has been a character I've really liked in the MCU and her sternness is a welcome change from all the other quippy heroes we have running around; though she is plenty humorous herself too. Monica wasn't a character I fell in love with during WandaVision, but Kamala will be a welcome addition to the cast!
7. Secret Invasion
From the trailer we got from this show, it looks to be a serious spy thriller that eschews a lot of the comedic tones that the MCU is typically known for. I'm all for that, especially with Samuel L. Jackson finally headlining an MCU project of his own after years of being a side character in other films! The prospect of a Skrull invasion is something fans have been wanting for years, and Secret Invasion could finally deliver.
6. Daredevil: Born Again
Definitely one of the most anticipated projects in the MCU right now, Charlie Cox returning as Daredevil has been one of the best parts of phase 4 and I cannot wait to see him in his own series again! His cameo in Spiderman: No Way Home was a lot of fun, and getting more of him throughout She-Hulk was a very welcome addition as well. It'll be the longest series up to this point, and one that they're putting a lot of work into based on what they've said behind the scenes! It won't be as gruesome as the Netflix series, which I figured, but as long as they keep a much more serious tone in keeping with what we're used to with Cox's Daredevil I will be fine.
5. Ant-man and the Wasp: Quantumania
I've been really enjoying not only Scott Lang as a character but the Ant-Man franchise as a whole from Marvel! They've done a great job bringing this small scale character to the big screen, and I couldn't be more excited to see Ant-Man's world completely blown open as we explore the quantum realm! From the trailer we've gotten the quantum realm looks insane, not to mention the proper introduction of Kang the Conqueror!
4. Captain America: New World Order
I know a lot of people really wanted Bucky to become Captain America, but I think it fits the MCU a lot better with the story they've molded for Sam to be the new owner of the shield. Seeing the title of Falcon and the Winter Soldier change to Captain America and the Winter Soldier gave me chills, and I am beyond excited for Sam's first film outing as Captain America! His suit design is one of the cleanest we've seen from the MCU so far, and seeing further action combinations of his wings and the Captain America shield will be no doubt awesome! Plus, we'll be getting the long time awaited return of "The Leader" who was first teased all the way back in The Incredible Hulk, not to mention Harrison Ford's first appearance as Thunderbolt Ross!
With so many new heroes being introduced through the Disney+ show route, it almost feels novel at this point to have new heroes introduced in their own theatrical film like Shang Chi and the Eternals! Blade has been a long time coming for the MCU and I'm really hoping they do this vampire hunter justice. I love the first two Blade films with Wesley Snipes, and getting new projects with the character in the MCU universe should be a lot of fun.
2. Thunderbolts
I'm not as excited about the line up for the team as I was hoping to be, as I was expecting more villains like Zemo and Abomination to be included; however, I'm still very much looking forward to this movie and a lot of the characters included! John Walker was one of my absolute favorite new characters from phase 4, and we're finally going to see more of Ghost! There should be lots of fun banter and tension between the members of this squad, and I'm just very interested in seeing what kind of movie this will be.
1. Guardians of the Galaxy vol 3
This one is coming soon and from everything I've heard about this movie it is going to be an emotional, epic ride. James Gunn has turned the Guardians into one of the best franchises in the MCU, and he's promised that their third film will be the final film for this iteration of the team. The stakes are real, and there's not much more to say than that I'm looking forward to one more ride with Peter Quill and the rest of his team who proved in 2013 that any comic property is viable for the big screen treatment no matter how obscure they may be!
