Ranking the 2023 Mcfarlane DC Multiverse Build-A figures

Mcfarlane did not put out as many Build-a-Figure waves as he did last year, but the ones that we got this year still greatly expanded our roster of characters in the line and really helped fill out some specific displays from the Titans to the live action film universes! With four waves of figures and four Build-a-Figures in total coming from the main DC Multiverse toyline this year, this'll be my list ranking from bottom to top my favorite Build-a-Figures from Mcfarlane's DC Multiverse for 2023!

4. Mr. Freeze (Batman and Robin)

Starting off the list will be Arnold's Mr. Freeze from Batman and Robin, undoubtedly the main surprising wave of figures to come from Mcfarlane this year! While I think it is delightfully awesome that we now have this iconic film depiction in action figure form from Mcfarlane, I think the overall presentation just doesn't hit as hard as the other figures on this list. The paint is very soft and the details just don't feel as sharp as they usually do when it comes to this figure release. A nice metallic sheen of paint would've gone a long way to really make this figure pop.

3. Beast Boy

The first Build-a-Figure released for the year was in our Titans wave, and we got the post-No Justice version of Beast Boy depicting him trapped in a more monstrous form! This is an instance where every detail of the figure comes together for a great action figure, with the sharp sculpting work, the eye catching colors, and for such a bulky figure Beast Boy manages to still pose very well. In current comics he has started using this form as a transformation in battle, meaning it still has a place on shelves even outside of the original specific run of Titans that it came from too!

2. Cyborg (Flashpoint)

I was extremely excited about getting a whole wave of Flashpoint figures over the course of the year! While there was a bit more re-use in the wave when it came to figure molds than I would've liked, they still look great assembled on the shelf and the Cyborg figure that we put together in the end is a beast of a figure on the shelf! Hulking and towering over the others, Flashpoint's Cyborg definitely looks the part of the character from the comics, and all of the wiring and circuitry detail work shines through well, not to mention the epic cannon-arm. This was a great figure to put together in the end, and really tied together the Flashpoint shelf.

1. Bane (The Dark Knight Rises)

This figure (and the whole wave that built him) topped off my list of favorite Mcfarlane DC Multiverse figures for 2023 as a whole, so it ranking in as my favorite Build-a-Figure of the year should come as no surprise. Since I saw The Dark Knight Rises, Tom Hardy's Bane has been one of my favorite film depictions of a character. His design was awesome (and really got me into wearing vests), his first battle against Batman was absolutely brutal (not to mention so many iconic lines of dialogue about light and darkness!), and up until the twist reveal near the end that rendered him a lackey I found him to be one of the best villains in DC films! Disregarding the Talia twist, Bane still stands as one of my favorite film DC villains, and this super articulated figure finally gave me the Bane I wanted with the ability to get him into all the poses necessary to break the Bat!
