Top 5 things I expect to see in Mcfarlane's DC Multiverse line in 2024
With 2023 about to leave us in the rearview, and 2024 coming upon us, I've got my thoughts and projections about what we'll see in the widely varied DC Multiverse line from Mcfarlane. This year brought a lot of very cool focuses and sets such as Flashpoint, waves based on live action Batman films from years past, and surprises like Black Lightning, Animal Man, and Waverider! There will always be curveball figure releases that I can't see coming, but based on gut intuition and what seems to be trends for the line, these are the top 5 things I expect to see released by Mcfarlane for their DC Comics line in 2024!
5. Joker 2 and Creature Commandos figures
It is usually a given that the larger scale media releases in a year will get corresponding figure releases. Next year the only DC Comics film that will be coming out will be Joker 2, and while it isn't a film, I feel like Creature Commandos has a pretty good chance at figures too since it is carrying with it the precedence of being the first official entry into the new DC film universe! I would've absolutely loved a Joaquin Phoenix Joker figure from the new movie, so here's hoping that Mcfarlane will give us one for the new film, and based on the concept art we've seen for Creature Commandos so far it looks ripe for cool looking action figures too! And it'll be another chance at a Weasel figure!
4. Classic Sinestro
One of the coolest figures to come out this year was the Collector's Edition Sinestro, adding a major baddie to the shelf that complemented well the Green Lantern collection we've amassed so far, and spruced up the line from its usual Batman and Superman tendencies. Now that the mold is available, I can see Mcfarlane tweaking it a bit to give us the classic blue uniform for Sinestro, and largely easy repaint that would line up really well with how he's leaned more into classic designs as of late.
3. New 52 Rookie Robot
I'm honestly surprised that we did not get this later this year to coincide with the Jim Gordon Batman figure that was released. It would have been a perfect Mega-Fig release, and I can only hope that it will be coming down the line to eventually pair up with our Jim Gordon Batman. It seems too odd for it to be a missed opportunity, so next year I'm projecting that a Mega-Fig Rookie Robot from the New 52 won't be too far down the line. There's plenty of repaint potential for it as well, looking at its appearance in the Batman Beyond comic series, as well as what was done with it in the Detective Comics series.
2. Batman (Detective Comics #1)
After getting the first appearance Superman this year my immediate thought is that it can't be too far behind before we get the first appearance Batman as well, there's no way Mcfarlane would not jump on the opportunity. I'm excited to see how it turns out if the line gets to this design, with Batman's original appearance very iconic with some signature design points like the gloves and cowl shape.
1. More live action Batman film figures
This year we not only got figures based off The Dark Knight trilogy, but also a whole 6-pack of live action Batman action figures from the different movies, as well as a Batman and Robin wave! Mcfarlane has already stated that these sets have sold well, and that he was open to doing more sets like this. I would not be surprised at all to see waves of figures based off of Batman Forever and Batman Returns next year to further fill out our live action Batman film displays. I for one would be all for this as well, such Jim Carrey's Riddler and Devito's Penguin as two of my most wanted figures from DC's live action history!
