Top 5 favorite Hasbro Transformers figures of 2023

And just like that, 800 posts have been written and published! More and more toylines to talk about every year, but there are always the classic lines for me to come back to, and with this post I'll be celebrating Hasbro's Transformers line which composed material for many of my original posts. This year was a great year for Armada, as well as probably the best Transformers Movie Masterpiece figure to date! Studio Series didn't impress me as much as it used to, as it is moving away from those original Bayverse movies I grew up on, but it still had some banger releases for the year, so go ahead and roll out to read my top 5 favorite Transformers figures of 2023!

5. Studio Series Scourge

For the first time in a while I was actually more excited about the Generations line of figures over Studio Series, but there are still a few making it onto this even if the shift of the overall Studio Series line has moved away from the original Bayverse films I grew up on. Rise of the Beasts was a lot of fun, and its primary antagonist was a terrifying force that Studio Series brought us a great figure of! While not wholly accurate to the film he hails from, Scourge's Studio Series debut still has lots of fantastic details, articulation, and accessory options to make it a worthy entry to the line.

4. Studio Series WFC Optimus Prime

One thing I was very excited about with the Studio Series line was to see the High Moon videogame universe introduced as a new subline, warranting those fantastic games modern updates for its designs. While some of the entries into this new subline weren't as exceptional as I would've liked, their Optimus Prime really blew my socks off and is what I hope to see more of from these updated videogames figures! The proportions and design of Optimus from this game is caught perfectly, with great accessories like a transformable axe, his gun, not to mention a matrix which is icing on top!

3. Legacy Armada Megatron

Getting into the three figures from the year that easily top off the list for me, I'll be starting with the leader class Armada universe Megatron! I was more than disappointed with the Combiner Wars Armada Megatron, which barely captured the overall essence of the character. This time around, the Legacy line has given us a wonderful update to a true Armada styled Megatron that brings me back to my childhood. While not packed with as many gimmicks of the original figure, expectedly, this rendition of Megatron captures all the details of the design perfectly with greatly updated articulation, and the most important gimmick of swinging his tank barrel around to his chest!

2. Legacy Armada Optimus Prime

The celebration of Armada came to an absolute head this year with the release of Commander Class Optimus Prime! While we have an even grander Armada scaled figure coming next year, this year celebrated Armada in a big way by giving one of its biggest scale slots to Optimus Prime himself in one of the best figure releases the character has ever seen! This figure is nostalgia overload for me, with every bit of the figure spot on to the design and detailing of the original series and figure. His voyager scaled Optimus Prime form can pull off very elaborate poses, and with the awesome trailer he can combine into Super Optimus which is an absolute beauty to see on the shelf.

1. Masterpiece Bonecrusher

From the moment this figure was revealed I knew it had a great chance at being number 1 for my list for the year, and getting it in hand it is certainly one of the best Transformers figures to date in my opinion. Back when I was writing about how much I wanted a Bonecrusher in the Studio Series line I wasn't shy about voicing how much I loved the character and his design despite his limited screentime in the original 2007 movie, and now getting him in the Masterpiece line of Transformers figures has been a dream. I cannot express how impressed I am with this figure to pull off so much of the CGI model off perfectly, from the webbed roller skate feet, to the abstract hunch where the claw and tires come together! I haven't been able to stop looking at this figure each time I walk by my desk, and with my grail dream of a Masterpiece Bonecrusher taking the top spot this year, I wouldn't be surprised if next year my other realized grail dream of a Titan Tidal Wave is sitting in this spot!
