Top 5 most wanted DC Multiverse figures based on the Superman (2018) comic series
I finally got around to reading the 2018 Superman comic run and it is for sure one of my favorite runs that I've read for the character in a while! Everything about it felt so impactful, with fantastic art, great development for all the characters, and some of DC's biggest Superman events in the past few years! It was a great character dive for Superman as well, really exploring him as a person and less of him using his powers to punch big villains, though there is plenty of that as well! As always, with reading it I was thinking about which characters I'd like to see ultimately made as action figures in Mcfarlane's action figure line, and these are the top 5 I rounded out!
Definitely a climactic and all consuming battle to see take place, the corrupted and blinded idol of planet Synmar came after Superman in a brutal fight! It was fantastic seeing Superman doing his best to try and reason with an alien that he had no way of communicating with, and no idea who he was or where he had come from! Opening up a psychic channel, using multiple languages to show the being he was attempting to communicate, and one of my favorite moments from this arc certainly came when Superman launched them into the Phantom Zone! While there, Clark fought Xadu to keep him within the Phantom Zone, but openly held the portal for Synmar to leave, showing peace and a willingness to talk things over. Not only was it a great battle, but a perfect showing of who Superman is when faced with an unknown threat.
Appearing a couple times throughout the series were Supergirl and Krypto who stopped in to help every so often. They are legacy characters who up to this point still haven't been added into the Mcfarlane line of figures! Supergirl is one of DC's most recognizable characters, and her connection to Superman himself should make her an easier selling figure if that's something Mcfarlane would think about. Selling her at a higher price point with Krypto included would be perfect!
Out of all the Superman villains introduced in the past several years, Rogol Zaar is no doubt one that has gained the most infamy and definitely have some notoriety behind him. His design is absolutely gruesome, and his vendetta against Kryptonians have put Superman and Supergirl both through some devastating, deadly battles! Mega figure candidate for sure when considering him for the toyline, and with Mcfarlane focusing on a lot of modern stuff for the toyline I think this guy would fit right in!
Another character who would slot nicely into the larger, mega figure subline of the toyline is Mongul! He is getting a lot of play right now with the current Warworld arc in Action Comics, but the character has had a very colorful history in the pages of DC comics! From assisting Cyborg Superman in the destruction of Green Lantern's city, to his more recent attempts to destroy the United Planets in the 2018 Superman series, Mongul has wrought antagonism in the comics for a long time now!
I absolutely love Jon as a character! Ever since he was first introduced, up to now he has been one of my favorite DC characters for his optimism, his pure goodness, and for being very much his father's son. A lot of people didn't like Jon being aged up in this series, and I can say I'm not the biggest fan of it either, but in terms of reading it as a story and a choice that the series made I think they handled it very well. Jon's initial suit he wears after coming back from his trip to space (and also throughout the 2019 Legion of Superheroes series) is, I think, my favorite design for the character, and his telling of what happened out in space definitely made for some intriguing issues of the comic series. His initial suit is definitely the one I want most, but I'd also take as well the later suit he wore during the final four issues of the series, even if those last four issues didn't resonate with me as well as the rest of the comic.
