Pacific Rim is one of my absolute favorites films from the 2010s and one was of the movies that really defined my film tastes as a teenager. NECA put out an impressive spread of designs from the movie, with Diamond Select hammering out a lot of the second film, and now Lingjihun has taken up the torch with some incredibly breathtaking new releases for this movie. Their Crimson Typhoon is perfection, and the subsequent releases like Gypsy Danger and Gypsy Avenger have been very impressive as well, not to mention the insane looking Leatherback as the line's first Kaiju release. There's lots of characters that haven't had figures before, or I'm excited to see Lingjihun tackle, and so this post will count down the figures I want most from Lingjihun's Pacific Rim line!
5. Slattern
A gray, non articulated prototype for a Slattern was shown a while back and I would drool for this mega Kaiju to be released in the line. The final obstacle in the first film, the universe's first category five was a menacing threat with a hammerhead and octopus-like appendages spilling out of its backside. This is one never approached by any company before, and I sorely hope to see Lingjihun move ahead with its release.
4. Obsidian Fury
While there was a lot of the second film that didn't live up to the first film, the rogue Jaeger Obsidian Fury was a highlight and its depiction in the film one of the best parts. I loved seeing the Jaeger vs Jaeger action, especially with Obsidian Fury's black sheen, burning dual chainsaws, and especially robotic movements. Lingjihun have proven masters in putting out stellar Jaegers, and could work magic with this design.
3. Stryker Eureka
Another prototype shown off previously is Stryker Eureka, easily my favorite of the Jaegers from the film. The look we've gotten at the potential release of the figure is very exciting with lots of accessory options and the film's fastest Jaeger surely promises to pack in some impressive articulation. We haven't seen it go up for official reveal or preorder quite yet, but with both Gypsy Danger and Avenger released so far hopefully the third Jaeger shown off with this comes soon.
2. Raiju
The next two slots will comprise Kaiju from the films that never got to receive any proper figures. The most Raiju has gotten in way of an action figure is predominantly the 3inch page punchers Mcfarlane release which is not quite what I'm looking for. The crocodilian design of this aquatic Kaiju really made it stood out against the rest of the line, especially when it would open its head to reveal its fleshy second face!
1. Onibaba
While its role in the actual film was very limited and restricted to a flashback sequence, Onibaba made a big impression on me when I first watched the film. The crustacean design for this Kaiju is so much fun and really sets it apart from a lot of the other creatures in the film, especially when several share design traits. Onibaba is wholly its own creature, and with its several appendages, shell armor, and disturbing chittering face, I would love to see this Kaiju finally receive a figure release after so long!
