Top 5 favorite Hasbro Transformers Studio Series figures of 2020
2020 has been an incredible year for the Studio Series line of movie figures from Hasbro as we hit so many major characters that fans have been waiting on for so long. From the start of the year to the end, we've gotten wave after wave of awesome figures and character choices, and for the end of the year I am here to talk about my top 5 favorite figures to come out this year. So with 2021 looking to be another incredible year for the line, lets step back for a moment and look at some of my favorite 2020 releases.
Coming out in the first wave of deluxe figures to start the year, getting an updated version of the Dark of the Moon Soundwave was something I'd been waiting on since the line began. While articulation isn't the most agile, the sculpting is incredible and I've always been a big fan of the design. The wheels situated behind his head, the sonic disks aligned along his arms, not to mention the added bonus of the Laserbeak figurine made sure that 2020 started hot.
Long awaited since the Bumblebee movie came out, we finally got Blitzwing in the final wave of this year's releases and it no doubt impressed many collectors. The awesome design of the character is captured perfectly with this figure from the obtuse wing design, the cockpit chest, coupled with a slew of accessories to make this the definitive movie Blitzwing figure for the shelves.
Going along with Blitzwing, we got the Offroad Jeep form of Bumblebee earlier this year and it by far has been my favorite deluxe release of the year! The transformation is fun, kibble is practically non existent in robot mode, and it pulls off the in movie model very well to capture one of my favorite designs for the character.
There was no way that this list would be written without the Constructicons being on it. To avoid most of this list being exclusively dominated by the Constructicons, I'm lumping them all together for one slot. I've always been an incredibly huge fan of the movieverse Constructicons and their abstract designs. The moment Hasbro announced they would be doing the full team in Studio Series, complete with the ability to combine into Devastator, I was ecstatic and it was a great feeling to finally put together the full team. While Mixmaster didn't impress me as much as the others, Scavenger, Overload, and especially Scrapper wowed me. Set up together the team looks incredible, and their combined form is a work of modern Transformers wonder.
From the moment the pictures for this figure were released I couldn't stop looking at them, and as soon as I got the figure itself in hand it was hard for me to put it down. Shockwave didn't get enough to do in the third film, but his design and presence alone were enough to make for an imposing, memorable villain in the series. The figure captures all of that and more, being possibly the most screen accurate figure in the entire line! The paint work is phenomenal as well, with the purple being splattered on like it has been chipped away by war. Shockwave immediately became my favorite figure in the whole line, and I don't see it being usurped from that spot.
