Top 5 most wanted Mcfarlane DC Multiverse Blackest Night figures
One big DC storyline that I haven't gotten around to talking about yet was the Blackest Night event, DC's first big foray into the "zombies" idea! It was accomplished in a very organic way too that allowed it to be a canon event, and even allow DC to revive several of its characters, while getting the chance to reuse some as Black Lanterns! It is an event that I'm a big fan of, and some of those original Black Lantern figures are some of the most gnarly DC figures to ever hit the market! With Mcfarlane in the reigns now with sculpt one of the best things about his figures I'm hoping he will take his own stabs at the Blackest Night storyline, and these 5 figures would be the ones I would most want to see made first!
The version that Mattel gave us of DC's embodiment of death isn't all that bad. The sculpting detail is actually quite impressive especially where the chest is concerned, and articulation is only really lacking when it comes to the knees and ankles. Whether he were to be a Build A release or a mega fig would allow a brand new Nekron to hit shelves at a larger scale, with no doubt the issues in articulation from the past release rectified and sculpting as great as ever!
This would be a tall order of figures and a group I'm not sure Mcfarlane is ready to headlong dive into yet, but seeing various characters across DC take the mantles of the different Lantern corps was a huge moment for the story and one that provided for some great designs! Blue Lantern Barry Allen is among my favorite, with Orange Lantern Lex Luthor, Yellow Lantern Scarecrow, and Red Lantern Mera being two more I'd love to see get redone in Mcfarlane's line of figures! The base New Guardians could be easier for Mcfarlane to jump into, and have already with Hal Jordan! His fellow Lantern Corps leaders would be very welcome in the line as well, from Sinestro to Atrocitus!
Given the major presence of both of these characters in Mcfarlane's line already I'd say Black Lantern versions of either of them are highly likely to be made first when it comes to any Blackest Night figures, and if so they would still be very impressive figures! I'm open to whatever Black Lantern figures that would ever come out and I can't wait to see the kind of decrepit, decayed sculpts the figures get! Black Lantern Batman was a fleeting presence in the storyline but a cool one nonetheless, and while Kal-El briefly became a Black Lantern I would much prefer Kal-L of Earth 2 to be made as the line's first Black Lantern Superman!
Undoubtedly one of the coolest Black Lanterns from the storyline was Firestorm who also got to play a prominent role in the central storyline as well! Seeing Firestorm's head lit up with a skull rather than a real head was a delight and one design that would later see use again for Earth 3's Deathstorm in Forever Evil, leading me to wondering if a Black Lantern Deathstorm could become the custom base for a New 52 Deathstorm...hmmm...
Hands down, this is the winner for me when it comes to the Blackest Night designs! It was one of the first Black Lanterns we are introduced to in the series, and the ghoulish, unsettling design of Elongated Man's Black Lantern form was everything it needed to be! The uneven proportions, gangling limbs, it all came together for a truly terrifying sight that I think needs to be captured in action figure form!
