Batwoman S01 EP14 spoiler review
Batwoman returned from break with an episode that I really enjoyed and it did set the story forward more and gave us a villain of the week who actually exists in the comics which I really liked! So with the season once again on the air, here is my review of Batwoman's 14th episode, "Grinning from ear to ear."

This episode primarily focused on Duela Dent as she hunted down different socialites, carving their faces as she had once done to herself. This character is actually, "Joker's Daughter," in the comics and it was great seeing a larger tier villain than the Executioner make an appearance on the show. Here's hoping that more Batman villains will be making appearances soon! I was surprised that they didn't have Mary be one of the character's that Duela went after, but Mary still got plenty to do in the episodes as she covertly confronted Kate about her secret identity as Batwoman, telling her step sister that she hopes one day she will trust her enough to tell her all her secrets. She also had a run in with Alice at her clinic, and at this point I'm figuring Mary is used to running into her as it has happened so many times. In terms of the other characters of the episode, Jacob Kane found himself pushed to push up the court case of an inmate who is "wrongly accused" of the death of Lucius Fox, though the Crow member he kept trying to bring it up to consistently refused to look back on the case. One of the larger stories in the episode involved Sophie's romantic relationship with Batwoman which is definitely going to get weird once she figures out Kate is Batwoman, though Batwoman decided to end it once Luke insisted that Batman kept ties cut in order to protect those around him. Sophie's mother visited, and by the end of the episode Sophie came out as gay to her mother which resulted in her mother storming out in disappointment.
The next biggest storyline involved Mouse being held captive by his returned father, and Alice discovering that Cartwright is back in town and posing as a plastic surgeon. In the end of the episode she tracks him down and captures him, though the villain isn't phased one bit and teases her about Mouse's location while the show reveals he is being pumped full of Scarecrow's fear gas!
So in the end, quite a few developments with a fun comic book character thrown in for fun. Alice's story does get stale for me when she just pops up for conversations with the other characters instead of being taken down like the villain she is, especially when Kate has been shown on several occasions to easily find her base of operations. Having her further her story though by capturing Cartwright is a really nice touch and something I'm excited to see continue developing. More exploration of Sophie's character is always welcome, and I'm interested in seeing the fallout of her discovering Kate's identity after her sorta weird relationship/dates with Batwoman. Mary is taking on more strength as an individual, and they still haven't explained how exactly Jacob was released of his charges and proved innocent.
