Batwoman S01 EP13 spoiler review
This episode of Batwoman was a mixed bag for me because there were plenty of elements that I enjoyed but then quite a few that I am very mixed about. So without much waiting, here is my review for the newest Batwoman episode titled, "Drink Me."

This episode did do quite a lot in terms of pushing the relationships of the story forward, I will give it that, as several new pieces shifted that will definitely change up the status quo. The main plotline of the episode followed Kate as she worked to take down a new villain in Gotham called, Nocturna. I was very excited to see this character introduced as I found her a lot of fun in the comics, and the idea of vampires being fully added to the Arrowverse after being teased in The Flash was something I was also anticipating. However, by the end of the episode it was revealed that Nocturna wasn't a real vampire and had a disorder that gave her qualities of vampirism, like being allergic to sunlight and needing blood to survive. The vampire teeth she barred, were actually implants which I found a bit cringey and could tell by the end that the actor was trying to talk with fake teeth in, because it sounded like her mouth was full. Overall I know in the comics Nocturna was a fake vampire at one point, but I was really excited for the vampire version I'm familiar with that the trailers indicated it was. After the whole storyline with a Beth from another universe being dropped in, I don't think it would have been too unrealistic for Batwoman to fight a vampire. Maybe the Mitternacht version of Nocturna can appear one day? By the end of the episode Kate took down Nocturna, locking her up.
Elsewhere in the episode, Jacob Kane was exonerated and released from prison (I missed the how of that occurrence) and confronted Sophie about reportedly aiding Batwoman for the past few months. Video of Sophie helping Batwoman escape Nocturna's lair before the Crows showed up was discovered and Jacob placed Sophie on a leave of absence. This lead to a meeting between Batwoman and Sophie by the end of the episode (I find it hilarious that Batwoman came out of the staircase leading up to the Crow's roof, not grappling up there) where Sophie told her that she couldn't jeopardize her job any longer to protect Batwoman; she could work with her no longer. Batwoman said she understood, and the two of them kissed. Sophie still doesn't know that Kate is Batwoman; however, by the end of the episode one character does find out! After Kate fought Nocturna for the first time and was injected with the ketamine the villain injected into her, Kate had Mary run some tests on her to make sure she was okay and Mary found out that Kate had ketamine in her system which Kate attributed to simply hardcore partying. Once it came out that Nocturna used ketamine, and had fought Batwoman, Mary managed to put it together that Kate is Batwoman and I can't wait to see how she carries on after that. I think it is awesome that she was able to put it together on her own as well, and she'll get to be a bigger part of the team now, hopefully, which I'd like.
The other big plot line of the episode involved Alice and this episode I think overly really shows how she doesn't work as the big bad anymore. She just constantly shows up, Kate continuously just lets her leave, and in this episode (like a few others) Kate is easily able to just find Alice's hide out and walk into it to have a conversation with her sister. What? If she knows where to find Alice, tell the police, tell the Crows; what happened to being driven to taken down Alice! Now she just lets Alice roam as she pleases. Nocturna captured Alice at a point in the episode, and Alice clued Nocturna in to Mary's cure-all blood which made the villain let Alice go free. This lead to Alice turning around and aiding Kate to save Mary by giving her a blood transfusion while Kate fought the villain of the week. A lot of turning around for Alice, who really seems to have fallen in danger-level and serious factor when she handled less like a threat and more like another character Kate can meet and talk with whenever she wants. Something I did like was that Mary mentions running blood tests on herself and finding no special properties in her blood, solving the mystery of why they don't use her blood to cure everything.
Overall, looking over the episode, there was a lot I liked in terms of the storyline being pushed forward. Sophie has been outed as helping Batwoman and now is suspended from the Crows. Jacob is how of prison (however randomly his release happened), and Mary now knows that Kate is Batwoman which will definitely be a big shift in character dynamics. I was a bit let down by Nocturna, and am having a hard time seeing Alice has a big bad level threat anymore, but maybe the show can turn that around and increase her lethality in the next few episodes.
