Batwoman S01 EP11 spoiler review

Batwoman was back with an episode dealing directly with the fallout of Crisis and while I do like elements of what they were going for, in whole I feel weird about what they introduced as seemingly a long running plot.

Jumping right into things, it was revealed that when the Multiverse was merged together once more, a version of Beth who escaped the car crash landed on our Earth meaning there are now two Beths, and one is a normal version Kate has taken in as her sister. It is a great way of showing the kind of person Beth could have been, and giving Kate what she wanted all along but at the same time...it eliminates the need for Alice to have any kind of redemption, and if someone didn't keep up with Crisis and only watched Batwoman this would definitely be something completely different from the tone and story type the season has been going with so far. I don't know how to fully explain it, but they've basically introduced the perfect version of a character they've been working all season to try and redeem, making Alice herself not worth redeeming anymore because they already have Beth.

In result of Alice's capture, Mouse kidnaps not only some high ranking officials' children, but Kate as well and threatens their death if Alice is not released. Of course, Alice isn't released but Beth instead dresses as Alice to try and trick Mouse, though fails to answer Mouse's secret message and needs saving herself by Kate who is able to escape. Meanwhile, Alice is able to escape from prison on her own as the book she has delivered to her as a personal item in fact has fishing wire for the stitching and she uses that to kill the guards keeping her in custody. However, now it is Mouse in custody thanks to Kate's actions. While all this was going, we also had a few flashbacks to Kate's past revealing how she eventually broke and gave herself the moniker of "Alive", after Mouse's father killed her cat and then forced her to carve Mouse's skin mask herself. We still have to find out what happened to his father and how she eventually escaped imprisonment though.

Elsewhere in the episode, we didn't get a whole lot with Jacob Kane in prison, and Luke mostly played more back up. Sophie spent a lot of it interrogating Alice, getting no real details, though Alice goaded her about lying to herself and marrying a man. By the end of the episode, the city is rallying behind Batwoman whom the police refused to call during the kidnapping events, and Kate and Beth were having their birthday party with Mary and Luke. Things get sour though as Beth suffers a massive headache. At the same time, Alice suffers one too, and it seems neither can be on the same Earth at the same time. My bets are that Beth is going to be killed, leaving Alice like before, and if anything this whole arc will be to show Kate what she lost when Alice became Alice.
