Most wanted alternate versions of McFarlane DC Multiverse characters vol 8
Mcfarlane's line of DC Multiverse figures continues to live up to its namesake of "multiverse" with characters receiving multiple alternate iterations in the toyline from throughout the history of the DC universe! We've gotten so many cool characters and awesome alternate designs for characters, and with more and more characters coming through there are more and more designs for these characters that I want to see visited in the future!
Starting off with a few very classic characters and designs from Mcfarlane. The Blackest Night wave is one of my favorite build-a wave that Mcfarlane has done so far and I was very excited for the Superman in the wave to be Kal-L of Earth 2! I'd love to build upon our Infinite Crisis collection with another Kal-L of the living variety to go with Superboy Prime! Then Mcfarlane has given us some really solid 90s epicness with the Parallax Hal Jordan along with the Azbat armor from Knightfall, and I hope they keep it up with the Spectre version of Hal along with the later modified mark 2 variations of Azrael's Batman armor!
A great load of heroes have been coming through the release pipe lately which I've been loving! The suit that Mcfarlane gave us for our first Kyle Rayner wouldn't have been my first choice but I'm still loving it, and am looking forward to hopefully getting his more prominent black and white suit. Then while Mcfarlane's Static Shock is based off the New 52 design, the art card included depicts his pre-New 52 design which is the next place I'd like them to go with the figures for this character. Finally, Constantine is an awesome character to have in the line, and though his simple design hasn't changed much over the years, his DCeased final battle design would be entirely epic! The Ragman cloak, the helmet of Doctor Fate, and plenty of other magical objects to boot making him one of the most powerful beings in the DC universe for a bit.
The videogame side of things has been running strong from Mcfarlane with their main focus being the Injustice world and Arkham games. I love this, as both game franchises are two of my favorite corners of the DC universe, and I'd absolutely love to see the Injustice roster fill out a bit more with depictions of Atrocitus and Black Adam! All of Atrocitus' designs in the game had a hard, rough texture to it that Mcfarlane could capture perfectly, and Dex-Starr as an accessory would be perfect! On the Arkham side of things, Mr. Freeze has been remembered as one of the best characters in the series since his debut in Arkham City, and while the Retro 66 version is a fun depiction to have I think it is time to move on to the meat and potatoes of this character's trademarks!
The Crime Syndicate is a group I am beyond thrilled to be seeing filled out in the DC Multiverse line; however, while I did enjoy the Infinite Frontier miniseries quite a bit, my forever favorites for this group of villains will be the Forever Evil renditions! The New 52 made the Crime Syndicate truly threatening villains to be afraid of, and I'd happily be ready to fork over the money for that version of these characters! While the Deathstorm appearing in Blackest Night is far removed from any connection to the Crime Syndicate version aside from name, the design still gives us a great idea of what a New 52 Crime Syndicate Deathstorm could look like!
The Black Adam movie figure line is giving us a lot of characters who haven't been in the line before, primarily JSA members who i am thrilled to be seeing in Mcfarlane's line even if it isn't the classic comic designs I am used to. With characters like Cyclone and Atom Smasher getting more notoriety as movie characters that will hopefully lead to comic based figures down the road, and the same with Hawkman as well as Sabacc who has a killer looking comic design from his Shazam! appearance!
Mcfarlane's stretch of doing villains have yielded some of my favorites villains in the DC universe into the collection! Ocean Master looks awesome and I would absolutely love a DCEU version of the character to go on the live action shelf; especially with another Aquaman movie on the horizon. The costume is one of my favorites from amongst live action depictions of comic book characters as it nails the comic book source with updates to bring it into a live action world.
The Talon army builders are fantastic, and would look even better backing up Lincoln March who had his own specialized Talon armor! Really the only other possible design for Nekron to be pulled from for another figure would be his use of Darkseid as an avatar in the Tales from the Dark Multiverse comic series. Even without the background of being Nekron's avatar, it is Darkseid in a cape which is pretty cool! Finally, the Ra's al Ghul we're getting in the Arkham City wave is one I'm excited to add to the collection, and also scratches that itch for a armor clad Ra's al Ghul so Mcfarlane's next jump into the character would be cool to pull from classic source material and give us his caped, suited design!
The upcoming Arkham City wave of figures looks to be one of the best yet from Mcfarlane when it comes to their wave line ups, and I can't wait to build the Arkham City Solomon Grundy who was by far one of the most memorable appearances and boss fights in the game! He looked gnarly, rotten, and is a design I'm excited to have Mcfarlane's interpretation of! The next Grundy I'd love to get my hands on would for sure be the Stargirl tv series version, a series I think sorely needs a set of figures in general! Grundy's build up in the first season made for an epic reveal in the season's final episode, and his growth in season 2 and friendship with Rick was one of my favorite storylines of the second season!
The upcoming two pack of Booster Gold and Blue Beetle is personally what I think is the best two pack Mcfarlane has made so far! It is two popular characters who make perfect sense to be released together, and who are both entirely new to the line! Booster Gold's costume has looked pretty static throughout the years with a cape here and a collar there, but for the next version of Booster in the toyline I think it would be very cool to draw from the recent Blue and Gold comic series after the reveal that the Black Beetle was in fact an alternate universe version of Michael! On the Blue Beetle side of things, the successor to the Blue Beetle moniker from Ted would be really nice to see in the toyline as well as Jaime Reyes' alien tech based Blue Beetle suit would look awesome from Mcfarlane!
