Top 5 favorite Star Wars Black Series figures of 2019

I think that this year, 2019, Star Wars the Black Series really kicked it into high gear and we got a ton of figures that the line has been lacking since its inception. I owe it to such a large time gap between movies, which makes me eager to see what the Hasbro team can accomplish with the few years between episode 9 and whatever comes next. For this list I'll be focusing on this past year though, and the five Black Series figures that came out as my personal favorites!

5. Battle Droid
It is absolutely nuts that it has taken so long just to get at least one Battle Droid in the line! The figure was warmly welcomed though and it is definitely one of my favorites of the year. I love the massive load of articulation that this figure is sporting, and its ability to fold up into its dormant state was a nice inclusion as well. Already Hasbro has announced a couple repaints of this droid, which I think is great so that the army of Clones we have will have someone to fight now; and the only thing I really have to complain about this figure is the fact that getting it to stand on its own is a bit of a pain.

4. Padme
Everything considered, it might have been a good thing that it took so long to get some of the human characters on this now because of the advancements in articulation and photo real technology. So when we finally got our first Padme figure she looks absolutely stunning, and her AOTC white jumpsuit was the perfect iteration of her to use first. She has always been a favorite character of mine, so I'm glad the figure came out looking so good. The only issue I have is the way the hip joints have been made, making it very awkward to get her legs set up sometimes.

3. General Grievous
This year was awesome for prequel figures, and one of the biggies was definitely General Grievous who marked the first official figure in the deluxe Black Series sub line. The figure came out looking as good as I hoped it would, with a cloth cape, four arms that can be combined into one, along with the robotic body and four lightsabers that he is known for. I'm so glad to finally get this figure into the line, and on the shelf he is definitely a spectacular presence.

2. Padawan Obi Wan
The Phantom Menace finally got another figure, and it is definitely one of the best of the year in my opinion. The character's articulatoin is fully maximized with the deep cut elbows and the butterfly joints making it possible for this character to easily hold his lightsaber with both hands. The portrait is also dead on to the actor is some angles, and overall it provides for a great looking Jedi body mold that Hasbro's is already taking advantage of for its Kit Fisto figure and AOTC Obi Wan next year! It'll be great to see more use out of this fantastic mold.

1. Mace Windu
Speaking of fantastic Jedi molds, along with a figure that should have been obvious given the prequel themed nature of this list, Mace Windu is definitely my favorite Black Series figure of the year. Just like the Padawan Obi Wan figure, Mace Windu is loaded with great articulation, an even better portrait, a great looking purple lightsaber, as well as the inclusion of a robe! Just like the Obi Wan figure, this Jedi mold is also getting some re-use as the Plo Koon figure next year, and I welcome that, because with everything this mold has going on it is definitely one of the most versatile, action oriented, and good looking figures from the line overall.
