Ranking the 2024 Mcfarlane DC Multiverse Build-A figures
Before I start off 2025 with recounting my favorite action figures of each line in 2024 I am going to put together a ranking of the four Build-A figures that we received from Mcfarlane's DC Multiverse line in 2024. It was a very diverse serving of waves we received with origins spanning classic comics, classic films, and even a forgotten video game! So starting with spot number 4, here is my ranking of Mcfarlane's 2024 DC Multiverse Build-A figures!
4. Nightmare Bat
This was an unexpected choice for the line, and a great deep cut into Batman Forever for a wave that had no other clear Build-A figure choices. The sculpting on this is great and very creepy, with many collectors using it as an unofficial "Man-Bat." He falls to the bottom of the list simply because it isn't a character or design I had any particular connection to as I wasn't even aware of the deleted scene until this figure was unveiled.3. Darkseid
The super classic Darkseid Mega-fig that we got was a great initial comic Darkseid in the line, and the Build-A fig Darkseid was what a lot of fans were wanting from the get go. The Justice League Task Force was a huge surprise of a wave to be released and one of the most random deep cuts that Mcfarlane has dived into during his time with the license. The standard Darkseid had a fantastic paint job, and imposing visage, and was a great incentive for collector's who otherwise weren't interested in the main wave. For a first in the line there was also a Platinum edition Build-A figure for the line when each Platinum chase of the individual characters were collected. This was a fiery pixel Darkseid that looks straight out of the old game.2. The Monitor
The first Build-A figure wave of the year was a controversial one. Crisis on Infinite Earths is one of the most influential and iconic storylines in all of DC comics and a wave based on it should have been a slam dunk; however, it was curiously released for an inflated price as a Mcfarlanetoysstore exclusive. Controversy aside, The Monitor ended up being a stand out figure from the wave when fully built. The sculpting detailing across the figure was impressive with the colors very reminiscent of the classic comic.1. Plastic Man
Undoubtedly the most popular Build-A figure wave of the year also had what I'd say is the best Build-A figure of the year. Plastic Man was an exciting addition to the line and his alternate pieces showing off his stretching abilities are a lot of fun to pose him with. They nailed the details of Plas' costume with the printing on the goggles, the absence of toes, and the paintwork for his belt. All of this lead to a great character from DC comics being brought to the toyline as my pick for the best Build-A figure of 2024.
